I had a wonderful night out last night. We had a party on the day of our 12th anniversary, so we combined my birthday and anniversay into one dinner out. I picked Mon Ami Gabi, we haven't been there in a while and I love french food. My birthday is often a last hurrah before I begin my post-holiday dieting and this time was no different. Holy shit, we had a great meal. In addition, Miguel made our reservation online and discovered a service that can have flowers waiting on the table. We ended up having to wait for our table anyway because a large party went very late. I was annoyed at standing in the crowded bar in a pair of boots not really made for standing, in a bar area not designed to hold large crowds of waiting patrons. And Miguel was trying to play it cool so I wouldn't demand that we go to another restaurant. When he went to check on our reservation, he asked about the flowers and the manager said "Oh they're beautiful; are you proposing tonight?" MIguel told me this as we sat down. That felt great, to still look young enough that we could be just about to get engaged and not two married old farts with 3 kids.
On a similar note, we went out to Red Robin with the kids the other night and the waitress carded us when we ordered margaritas. I guess we've never been carded while with the kids before because they got this freaked out look on their faces when we handed our licenses to the waitress, like we were about to get a ticket or something!
To top off the nice evening, Miguel even had a gift waiting for me in the car. For 12 years, the traditional gift is silk. So it was a Victoria's Secret box holding a a really pretty beaded lingerie item. We don't do lingerie very often, but I guess that's what he thought of when he thought of silk. Not being a regular VS shopper, Miguel had picked it out online and then gone to the store to buy it. But they didn't carry it. He ended up having it overnighted so he could give it to me on our date. The whole thing was really sweet and definitely the best date we've had in a while.
When we picked up the kids, they wanted to know what was in the box. So I showed it to them and told them it was a really fancy pajama "top" (to explain how small it was) and that I'd have to wait 12 more years to get the bottoms!
Today Rodrigo, Clara and Sylvia presented me with a really cute 2007 Kitten Calendar that they bought with their own money. We were at Borders and all the calendars were 50% off. They asked me what my favorite kitten calendar was. Then Clara pretended to buy it for herself. IT was very funny. Especially since I know that Clara has a 2007 High School Musical calendar for her room. I pretended to be surprised this morning. Oh, and I stayed in bed until 10:30 this morning! So all in all, a fab weekend for me!
